Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The world awaits the signing of an agreement to end the war, and global media outlets have focused on the imminent agreement between Iran and the United States to end the war. However, there is a division within Iran regarding this agreement, particularly among conservative circles who oppose any potential concessions to Washington, while Israeli bombing continues in southern Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, and sirens once again sound in Jordan. Regarding the latest developments concerning the anticipated agreement, Belgian media in Brussels reported: US President Donald Trump wrote on the "Truth Social" website on Saturday that the agreement with Iran would be signed the following day, which coincided with his 80th birthday. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the two sides had agreed on a framework for a peace agreement, and that Islamabad was preparing for an electronic signing on Sunday. Technical talks will be held next week.
Iran has not confirmed this timing. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei cautioned against making statements about the exact signing date. According to Iranian state media, he said the signing would not take place "tomorrow," but perhaps "in the coming days."
According to Trump, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened "to everyone" as soon as the framework agreement is signed. This vital shipping lane for global oil supplies has been closed by Iran. Sources familiar with the talks say the proposal also includes lifting the US naval blockade.
Fox News: US Official Reveals Outlines of Washington-Tehran Agreement
A senior US administration official said that the outlines of an agreement between the United States and Iran are taking shape, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz without imposing tolls on shipping in exchange for lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports.
Fox News quoted the official as saying during a briefing for reporters that the United States believes it is close to reaching an agreement with Tehran, adding: "We believe we have a deal. It's a very good deal and a very strong deal." He stated that lifting the US embargo on Iranian ports would coincide with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that "the next phase will focus on demining operations in the waterway."
These statements come as US President Donald Trump and officials in his administration continue to express confidence in reaching an agreement soon, while Iranian officials have offered conflicting accounts regarding the status of the negotiations and their terms.
CNN quoted officials detailing the meeting scheduled for the signing of the anticipated agreement to end the war in the Middle East between Washington and Tehran.
The officials confirmed to CNN that plans for an in-person signing ceremony between Washington and Tehran had been canceled and replaced with an electronic signing due to logistical challenges. Trump had declared throughout the previous stages of negotiations that enriched uranium must be removed from Iran, stating that Washington would remove and destroy it. However, Tehran consistently refused to transfer it to another country.
In Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told the IRNA news agency, "We have to wait to find out the exact date of the signing. It won't be on Sunday," suggesting it would happen in the "coming days."
Sirens sound in Jordan
Jordanian state television reported that sirens sounded early Sunday morning in Jordan, without providing further details. The report came in the early hours of Sunday morning. State television only reported hearing the sirens in the kingdom. It was not immediately clear where they originated or why.
Five killed in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon
At least five people were killed on Saturday in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, Al Jazeera Arabic reported, citing the Lebanese National News Agency. The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, brokered by the United States, has not yet ended the violence.
The mayor of Jezzine, Ali Badih, was killed in an attack near the city, according to the National News Agency. Four others were killed in attacks on three other villages in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli attacks also destroyed homes and government buildings in the southern town of Bint Jbeil. The United States and Iran are nearing a historic agreement, but resistance is growing in the streets of Tehran: "Death to compromise."
The United States and Iran appear to be nearing a framework agreement aimed at ending the fighting between the two countries. Washington and Islamabad are counting on signing an agreement on Sunday, but Tehran is currently postponing the date.
Iranian protesters demand the resignation of the foreign minister.
In the Iranian city of Mashhad, dozens of people demonstrated on Saturday evening in front of Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, according to images published by Iranian media. The protesters gathered in front of the ministry building, demanding his resignation and chanting slogans against him. A child was killed in Khan Younis, and the occupation forces demolished buildings in northern Gaza.
A child was killed by Israeli occupation forces late Saturday night in the southern Gaza Strip, according to a source at Nasser Hospital.
Palestinian media reported that the child killed was Amir Imad al-Bashiti, 13, who died after being shot by Israeli forces in the Batn al-Samin area, south of Khan Younis.
