Dr. Bader Abdel-Aty; The Ambassador of Egypt to the Kingdom of Belgium accredited to the European Union met with, Mr. Stefano Sanino, Secretary General of the Foreign Service of the European Union; They reviewed ways to enhance joint cooperation in various fields, especially energy; and the environment within the framework of Egypt’s presidency of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27); As well as continuing the dialogue in the field of human rights within the framework of the current arrangements for the convening of the sub-committee on political affairs, human rights and democracy, and international issues emanating from the Association Agreement between Egypt and the European Union.
In this context, the state of momentum in relations between Egypt and the European Union in areas of cooperation of common interest was emphasized, which was reflected in the frequency of high-level mutual visits between the two sides, as well as the signing of the memoranda they met in this regard. The Egyptian ambassador emphasized the great opportunities for cooperation in the field of energy security with Egypt; Especially the export of liquefied gas, as well as clean, new and renewable energy sources, especially the export of green hydrogen to Europe.
Ambassador Eid El-Aty discussed in detail the developments in the comprehensive modernization and development process taking place in Egypt at the political, economic, developmental, social and cultural levels, and the strengthening of the human rights and fundamental freedoms system. The efforts exerted to enhance and expand the scope of political participation by activating the work of the comprehensive national political dialogue and continuing the work of the presidential amnesty committee, as well as continuing the implementation of the national human rights strategy by the various concerned state agencies, in cooperation with civil society organizations, were also reviewed.
The Egyptian ambassador also touched on the efforts exerted to advance the Egyptian economy and enhance its resilience in the face of the negative repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis. Chief among them is the food security crisis; As well as national efforts aimed at attracting foreign investments to Egypt. It was agreed on the importance of encouraging European companies to invest in Egypt in light of the continuity opportunities that the Egyptian economy abounds in, including the energy and infrastructure sectors.
In the context of addressing Egypt's hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27); The Egyptian ambassador emphasized Egypt's interest in the issues of climate change and the environment; Supporting the broad and effective participation of civil society organizations concerned with environmental issues and climate change in the work of this session by allocating places for their presence and providing space for them to organize their various activities and submit their contributions and proposals within the framework of the topics that will be addressed in the work of the conference. The Egyptian ambassador highlighted that these efforts come within the framework of the importance Egypt attaches to the role of civil society organizations and the private sector in the ongoing process of social and economic modernization.
The vital regional role played by Egypt in achieving security and stability in the Middle East and Africa was also commended. In addition to dealing with a number of regional files, especially the Palestinian and Libyan issues, and the situation in Syria.
