The Euro-Mediterranean Trade Assistance Desk is part of the EU-funded activity in Phase I and Phase II of the Trade and Investment Facilitation Mechanism. The portal was designed and implemented by the International Trade Center (ITC) to enhance trade competitiveness and strengthen regional trade integration. In March 2018, the Trade Ministers of the Mediterranean Region endorsed Helpdesk as the leading tool for comprehensive regional trade information
A new upgraded version was initially launched in June 2017, and released in July 2022 with more information on trade in goods, such as intra-regional trade potential, and new modules displaying statistics on trade in services and foreign direct investment flows. This data is constantly updated thanks to the Euro-Mediterranean Trade Helpdesk network of 10 partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Turkey.
To enhance support for economic operators, the regional tool provides a network of national contact points that, in collaboration with local institutions, provide customized responses to user inquiries.
