The United Nations expressed its deep concern following reports that "Aleppo airport was targeted by an Israeli air strike," and urged all parties to respect their obligations under international law. According to a UN news bulletin, a copy of which we received on Tuesday morning.
In response to questions from journalists in New York on Monday, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric confirmed that the events that took place at the airport led to its closure and the cancellation of at least one flight of the United Nations humanitarian air services, stressing the vital role played by Aleppo Airport in those operations.
"We are deeply concerned about these reported airstrikes. The Secretary-General condemns all acts of violence in Syria, and urges the parties to respect their obligations under international law," he added.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further regional escalation, according to Mr. Dujarric. He also recalled the need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure under international humanitarian law.
