Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tuchitsky said on Sunday that his country seeks to hold a global "peace summit" this year after international representatives met in Malta at the weekend to discuss the peace formula proposed by Kiev for its war with Russia.
“This goal remains necessary and possible,” Tuchitsky told Reuters by phone shortly after the end of the meeting. “It has become clear that there is interest in this.” He added that heads of state and government will attend the summit, according to a publication on the Youm7 website in Cairo on Monday morning
Kiev said that the Malta meeting on Saturday and Sunday was attended in person or online by representatives from 66 countries, an increase of more than 20 countries compared to a previous meeting on the same topic in the Saudi city of Jeddah in August. Russia does not participate in these talks.
On the other hand, Russia announced that the Ukrainian forces suffered heavy losses in personnel and equipment, while the drone war between the two sides escalated.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered losses of about 130 soldiers in the southern Donetsk region during the past 24 hours, while Kiev praised the Malta conference to end the war.
A statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that “the Ukrainian army suffered losses of about 130 soldiers, an armored personnel carrier and two vehicles, in addition to a D-20 howitzer,” according to what was reported by the Russian TASS news agency.
The ministry said that Russian forces also hit the manpower and equipment of the Ukrainian 72nd Mechanized Brigade near the Donetsk settlements of Oglidar and Vodyanyoy.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced that the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered losses of about 55 soldiers in the Kherson region during the last hours.
