UNIFIL reaffirms the importance of calming tensions in southern Lebanon and the region

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that peacekeepers in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) continue to carry out their tasks, including patrols and other activities, amid daily exchanges of fire along the Blue Line. In the daily press conference, Dujarric stressed that UNIFIL is still actively working with the authorities on both sides to calm tensions. He added that the head of the mission and its commander-in-chief, Major General Aroldo Lazaro, held a meeting on Wednesday in Beirut with the head of the caretaker government in Lebanon, Najib Mikati, and the commander of the Lebanese army, General Joseph Aoun.
According to the United Nations spokesman, the UNIFIL Commander stressed the importance of calming tension in southern Lebanon and the region and the necessity of fully implementing Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as working to reach a decisive political and diplomatic solution to restore stability.
