
EU ice cream production exceeds 3 billion liters.. Germany, France and Italy lead

In 2023, the European Union produced 3.2 billion liters of ice cream, down 1.4% compared to 2022 (3.3 billion liters), according to figures published by the European Statistical Office in Brussels
Among the European Union countries, Germany was the main producer of ice cream in 2023, producing 612 million liters, followed by France (568 million liters) and Italy (527 million liters).
In addition to being the largest producer of ice cream in 2023, Germany produced the lowest average price for ice cream at 1.8 euros per liter. France reported an average price of 2.2 euros per liter of ice cream, while Italy's average price was 2.6 euros per liter.
The most expensive ice cream was produced in Austria, with an average price of 7.7 euros per liter of ice cream, followed by Hungary at 4.8 euros per liter and Greece at 3.7 euros per liter.
In addition to Germany, the cheapest ice cream is produced in Lithuania, with an average price of €1.9 per litre, followed by the Czech Republic with €2.0 per litre and Sweden with €2.1 per litre.
France accounts for a fifth of all ice cream exports outside the EU
In 2023, EU countries exported 261 million kilograms of ice cream to non-EU countries, with a total value of €1.04 billion. On the other hand, ice cream imports from non-EU countries amounted to 56 million kilograms, with a value of €217 million. The volume of exports increased by 5% compared to 2022 (249 million kilograms), while imports from non-EU countries decreased by 8% in 2023 (61 million kilograms).
France exported 52 million kilograms of ice cream in 2023 to non-EU countries, accounting for 20% of EU ice cream exports. This made it the largest exporter of ice cream in the EU, ahead of the Netherlands (35 million kg of ice cream; 14% of EU ice cream exports), Germany (29 million kg; 11%), Italy (28 million kg; 11%) and Ireland (24 million kg; 9%).
