Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) will be held in October, and in this context, Eurostat, the European Statistical Office in Brussels, has announced an invitation to join its sessions. On 9 October, from 16:30 to 17:30 CET, Eurostat will host a collaborative workshop entitled: Charting the Course: Competitive Navigation and Convergence for Europe’s Regions.
This workshop brings together experts from Eurostat, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to analyse and discuss the EU’s efforts to balance competitiveness with convergence.
European Week of Regions and Cities, Empowering Societies, 7-12 October 2024. Roadshow.
The OECD will start the workshop by providing an overview of global trends in competitiveness and economic convergence, with a focus on productivity trends and differences between regions.
Next, Eurostat will explore the latest statistical data and analysis, and present recent trends in economic convergence within the EU by incorporating measures that go beyond GDP – such as quality of life, access to services, and digital inclusion. Eurostat will illustrate progress over the past two decades, particularly in the wake of the EU’s eastern enlargement.
Finally, the Joint Research Centre will provide insights into the interplay between economic and demographic change. Based on the latest trends, it will show how different types of regions, including urban and rural, urban and peripheral, are likely to evolve in the coming decades.
Be sure to register for this collaborative workshop, which will be held in person in Brussels.
If you are visiting the European Week of Regions and Cities, take the opportunity to learn more about the dual transformation by attending Eurostat’s short presentation, Regions and cities going green and digital, on 9 October at 12:30.
