In her first visit to the Middle East region after assuming the position of High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union at the beginning of this month, Kaya Kallas will travel to Jordan on December 14 and 15 to participate in an international meeting on Syria hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. According to a European statement issued in Brussels by the European official's office, "In Aqaba, the High Representative will discuss the ongoing developments in Syria after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, along with the foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, the Arab League, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar, as well as Turkey, the United States and the UN envoy to Syria. The talks aim to support a comprehensive Syrian-led political process in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. On the sidelines of the meeting, High Representative Kallas will hold several bilateral meetings. The visit comes on the eve of the EU Foreign Ministers' meeting scheduled for the 16th of this month, where the situation in the Middle East, including Syria, will be discussed, along with other files. A European statement said, "The Council will discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, with a focus on Syria, Lebanon and the developments of the Middle East crisis."
