The European Commission in Brussels published in a statement what President Ursula von der Leyen said after talks with the Jordanian monarch on Monday, saying: "I came to Amman to meet King Abdullah II, following the Aqaba meetings on Syria. I expressed Europe's full support for Jordan in these uncertain times.
The European Union will work closely with Jordan and our partners to ensure a political transition in Syria, in line with the principles set out in UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
This will be a step-by-step approach.
We will step up and deliver humanitarian assistance across Jordan and support the early recovery of basic services and infrastructure.
I look forward to welcoming King Abdullah II to Brussels in early 2025. Together we will launch an enhanced strategic partnership between the European Union and Jordan
