Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
The Commission, in partnership with the Council of Europe, is organizing the second two-day coordination meeting to combat anti-Muslim hatred and racism, which kicked off today.
According to the European Commission announcement in Brussels, this event brings together a wide range of stakeholders from EU Member States, the Council of Europe, Canada, New Zealand, international organizations, EU agencies, and the media.
Participants will discuss the crucial issue of terminology: finding the most effective language to describe and combat anti-Muslim hatred. The role of the media in shaping public perceptions and the measures needed to avoid the normalization of anti-Muslim rhetoric will also be highlighted, with a focus on identifying innovative solutions and sharing best practices to counter this trend.
The event was opened by Magnus Brunner, Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration. Haja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, will participate tomorrow via video message to highlight the Commission's commitment to this vital issue.
