
1,055 bankruptcies were announced in Belgium last month, the highest number in ten years.

In March 2025, commercial courts registered 1,055 bankruptcies. This represents a 7.2% increase compared to February 2025 (984).
The Belgian Statistical Office (Statbel) also published a comprehensive report including the most important developments in monthly bankruptcy figures.
It stated that the number of bankruptcies registered in March 2025 was higher than the same month in 2024 (+3.0%) and in 2023 (+15.0%). This is the highest value for March in Belgium since 2015 (1,134).
At the regional level, the number of bankruptcies increased compared to February 2025 in Wallonia (+24.8%) and the Flemish Region (+9.8%). This number also increased in the Flemish Region and the Brussels-Capital Region compared to both March 2024 and March 2023. This is also the highest value for March in the Flemish Region since the previous record in 2024 (628 versus 594), while we have to go back to March 2022 to find more bankruptcies in the Brussels-Capital Region for this month (203 versus 165).
