Jordanian Judge Daifallah to be sworn in as member of the International Court of Justice in The Hague on Wednesday

The International Court of Justice will hold a public session at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, during which His Excellency Judge Mahmoud Daifallah Hamoud (Jordan), a new member of the Court elected by the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council on May 27, 2025, will be formally sworn in. According to a statement issued on Monday at the court's headquarters, a copy of which was sent via email, "Judge Hammoud's swearing-in was originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, but was postponed due to urgent personal reasons.
During the session, Judge Hammoud will make the solemn declaration stipulated in Article 20 of the Court's Statute, which stipulates that members of the Court must, before assuming their duties, make a solemn declaration in open court that they will exercise their powers impartially and conscientiously."
Judge Hammoud was elected following the resignation of Judge Nawaf Salam on January 14, 2025. In accordance with Article 15 of the Court's Statute, Judge Hammoud will hold office for the remainder of Judge Salam's term, which was scheduled to expire on February 5, 2027.
