The United Nations is holding its annual media seminar on peace in the Middle East today, Monday, under the title "Breaking Barriers: Addressing the Dangers and Complexities of Reporting from Gaza and the West Bank." According to the UN Daily News, which added under the heading "What Matters?":

The 2025 UN Media Seminar highlights the realities of journalistic coverage in one of the most dangerous and complex working environments in the world.

What issues will the seminar address?

The seminar, organized by the UN Department of Global Communications, will address important issues including:

The reality of journalistic work in Gaza today;

Internal and external perspectives in journalistic reporting;

Maintaining journalistic integrity under pressure;

Challenges of accessing information;

Combating disinformation;

The responsibilities of regional and international media;

The role of the international community in supporting the rights of journalists to work freely and safely.

Who will participate?

The UN Secretary-General will issue a message on the occasion of the seminar. The opening session will include remarks by Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour, and Coly Seck, Permanent Representative of Senegal to the United Nations and Chair of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

Participants in the symposium include Judy Ginsberg, Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Journalists, and Ibtisam Azem, Senior Correspondent for Al-Araby Al-Jadeed at the United Nations in New York.

Video messages will be shown during the event from Wael Dahdouh, Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau Chief; Tania Kramer, President of the Foreign Press Association; Hagai Matar, Executive Director of +972 Magazine; and Nasser Abu Bakr, President of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
