A Clash Between the US and Israel Over War: Trump Wants a Settlement and an End to the Crisis, Netanyahu Supports Continued Military Operations Against Iran... and an Expected Visit by the Israeli Prime Minister to Washington

Washington – The Hague: Europe and the Arabs

Trump and Netanyahu clash in a "long and heated" phone call: "He was furious." Under this headline, European media outlets in The Hague, Netherlands, reported a sharp disagreement between the United States and Israel regarding the possibility of resuming military operations against Iran. The Dutch newspaper Dagblad wrote on its website that phone conversations between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu witnessed a heated clash this week concerning the war in the Middle East and the possibility of reaching a new agreement with Iran.

During a lengthy phone call, the two leaders disagreed on the path to take: Trump wants to reach an agreement, while Netanyahu wants to proceed with the attack. According to US sources, Netanyahu was "very angry" afterward.

According to the Dutch newspaper, Israeli Channel 12 and the reliable US news platform Axios, citing informed sources, Trump informed the Israeli Prime Minister of a new declaration of intent being worked on by mediators. The goal is a ceasefire followed by 30 days of negotiations on contentious issues, such as Iran’s nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Newsletter: Daily
While Netanyahu has categorically rejected any agreement, sources say Trump wants to do everything he can to reach a deal.

“Bibi is always worried.”

This fundamental difference in viewpoints led to the conversation, which was described as “long and intense.” Afterward, the Israeli ambassador told members of the US Congress that Netanyahu “was worried” about the phone call. However, other sources immediately downplayed this, saying, “Bibi is always worried.”

In a speech yesterday at the Coast Guard Academy, Trump suggested that he still believes in a diplomatic solution. At the same time, he is prepared to continue the war if the talks fail.

“The only question is whether we’ll go through with it and finish it, whether they’ll sign a document. We’ll see what happens,” Trump said. He added, implying that, regarding Iran, the Israeli prime minister “will do what I want him to do.” Iranian Demands

Meanwhile, the Iranian regime is showing little aggression. Both sides are reviewing a revised proposal, but both maintain, through an official spokesperson, that talks will only succeed if the United States ceases its "piracy" of Iranian ships and releases frozen assets. They are also demanding that Israel end the war in Lebanon.

In an attempt to ease tensions between the two allies, Netanyahu plans to travel to Washington in the coming weeks for a face-to-face meeting with Trump, according to an Israeli source.
