A major criminal network consisting of 34 individuals of various nationalities has been apprehended. The group includes six French citizens, 11 Dutch citizens, two Algerians, and one each from Libya, Belgium, and Ukraine.

Those arrested are between 18 and 32 years old, mostly young people. This was announced by the public prosecutor's office, which launched an intensive investigation immediately after the arrests to uncover the details of the operation that resulted in the death of a Dutch citizen and injuries to two police officers in a shooting.

The mayor of Overaselt has sealed off two houses in the village and urged residents to remain indoors for the next two days. He also invited residents to a media briefing to be held this Friday at a local community center. The briefing aims to help residents cope with the situation and provide an opportunity to ask questions of the police, the mayor, and municipal officials.

This crime has deeply shaken the local community and instilled fear and anxiety in the wider public. The Public Prosecution Service considers all those arrested, without exception, to be involved in the killing that resulted in the death of a citizen and the wounding of two police officers during an exchange of gunfire.

The Public Prosecution Service accuses this criminal network of premeditated murder and possession of unlicensed weapons. Two individuals were released yesterday due to insufficient evidence.

Those arrested have been placed in solitary confinement and are only permitted to contact their lawyers. According to Dutch media, an exceptionally violent incident occurred in Overasselt, Gelderland, on the night of August 31st to September 1st. Around 4:00 AM, police received a report of a suspicious activity at a house on Ewiksweg Street. Reports indicated the presence of a large group of masked individuals at the location.

Following the incident, the police formed a large investigative team, which ultimately led to the arrest of 34 people. According to international reports, the suspects come from countries including the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Algeria. Possible Cocaine-Related Dispute

Dutch media, citing sources, reported that the violence may be linked to a dispute over a large cocaine shipment. Specifically, they mentioned an 812-kilogram shipment of cocaine allegedly seized at the French-Spanish border on August 29, with an estimated street value of tens of millions of euros.

However, Dutch police have not yet officially confirmed this connection. The motive for the attack remains under investigation.

Exceptional Violence
The gathering of dozens of masked and potentially armed individuals in one place at midnight makes this an exceptional incident for the Netherlands. Police Chief Janne Knol described the violence as unprecedented.

The investigation into the events in Overasselt is ongoing. However, it is clear that one person has died, two police officers were injured, and dozens of suspects have been arrested. Furthermore, if the potential cocaine connection is confirmed, the incident will have a distinctly international dimension related to drugs.
