Brussels: Europe and the Arabs
Donald Trump has transformed the United States into an oil-rich nation, practicing repression at home and imperialism abroad. According to a statement released in Brussels by the European Green Party, the rapid development of the United States under his extreme nationalist agenda, "Make America Great Again," demonstrates to European societies where right-wing nationalist and patriotic policies are leading.
European Green Party co-chair, Fula Tseci, said:
"European leaders must unite against Trump's authoritarianism. Trump's insistence on 'acquiring' Greenland reveals a dangerous nationalist trajectory, pushing the United States toward an oil-rich model characterized by internal repression and an explicitly imperialist agenda."
"We call on all pro-European and pro-democracy forces to work together to defend our values, protect Europe's independence, and build a sovereign, green Europe capable of respecting international law, defending democracy, and protecting the rights of peoples, including the rights of the people of Greenland." Vola Tsitsipas said: “Many European far-right leaders are using extreme nationalist rhetoric and trying to ignite culture wars similar to Trump’s pro-Trump policies: Viktor Orbán (Hungary), Fico (Slovakia), Babiš (Czech Republic), Vučić (Serbia), and Meloni (Italy) – who was the only European leader to attend Trump’s inauguration in January 2025. They will have to explain how Europeans can reconcile their friendship with Trump with their role in Europe.”
Ciaran Kov, co-chair of the European Greens, added: “Trump’s foreign policy is all about oil and intimidation. He has resorted to blatant imperialism and colonialism to increase the profits of US oil and gas companies. This is evident in the military intervention in Venezuela to seize its oil, the threats to seize Greenland’s resources, and the withdrawal from key UN climate organizations.” “Climate action, democracy, and the rules-based global order are not separate conflicts; they are two sides of the same coin. Europe’s solution must be energy self-sufficiency, built on cheap solar and wind power, energy efficiency, and a strong green industry. The Green Deal and the transition to cheap renewable energy are not just climate policy; they are also a geopolitical necessity for Europe in a world dominated by imperialist oil states,” concluded Ciaran Cove.
An extraordinary European summit is scheduled for the 26th of this month. According to EU institutions in Brussels, EU leaders will discuss recent developments in transatlantic relations and their implications for the Union, and will coordinate ways forward. A European statement issued in Brussels quoted European Council President António Costa as saying, “Russian aggression, the undermining of the rules-based international order, and the questioning of key alliances are all geopolitical challenges facing Europe, sometimes seemingly daunting. But the EU will emerge from this crisis stronger, more resilient, and more sovereign. Our response must have three components: a Europe of principles, a Europe of protection, and a Europe of prosperity.” The statement added that during his address to the plenary session in Strasbourg on January 21, President Costa highlighted several key points he believes enjoy broad support from member states ahead of the informal meeting:
Unity around the principles of international law, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty;
Unity in full support and solidarity with Denmark and Greenland;
The shared transatlantic interest in peace and security in the Arctic, particularly through NATO;
Concern that further tariffs could undermine relations and are incompatible with the EU-US trade agreement.
President Costa also emphasized that the EU has the strength and the tools to defend itself.
“We are fully prepared…” We are prepared to defend ourselves, our member states, our citizens, and our businesses against any form of coercion.
Furthermore, the European Union wishes to continue its constructive engagement with the United States on all issues of common interest.
