During her visit to Egypt, Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, participated in the opening of the 43rd World Scout Conference, where she highlighted the compatibility of values ​​between the United Nations and the Scout Movement.
Amina Mohammed stressed the need for meaningful participation of youth organizations, such as scouts, in decision-making to promote a more just, peaceful and sustainable future. The UN official also participated in an intergenerational symposium, during which she stressed the importance of combining the innovative ideas of youth with the wisdom and experience of the older generation, in order to develop more comprehensive solutions to challenges.
Bilateral meetings
On the sidelines of her visit, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations held bilateral meetings with officials, including Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty, to discuss opportunities for cooperation to address the complex challenges facing the region, especially social and economic issues and ongoing conflicts.
Amina Mohammed stressed the need to move forward on the path of an ambitious charter for the future.
The UN official also met with Dr. Amjad Barham, Minister of Education of the Palestinian Authority, to discuss the possibilities of returning children to education in Gaza and the West Bank, and refugees in Egypt. Amina Mohammed also met with the UN team in Egypt and regional directors. The UN official today visited areas in the Nile Delta and the North Coast to inspect a UN project focusing on coastal protection and flood mitigation.
