According to a European statement, during the meeting, Borrell and the foreign ministers of Japan, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom will hold in-depth discussions on a number of foreign policy and security issues - in particular the situation in the Middle East, the G7’s continued support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s war of aggression, and key developments. In the Indo-Pacific region. Ministers will also have the opportunity to discuss current and future G7 engagement with international partners, including their counterparts from the five Central Asian countries.
During his visit, Borrell will hold a series of bilateral meetings, including with Japan's recently appointed Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, as well as with his other G7 counterparts.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that the G7 foreign ministers will discuss the crisis in Israel and the Gaza Strip and the possibility of stopping the regional escalation.
Cleverly added - according to what was reported by the official website of the British government - “Along with our partners in the G7, we will also, in our meeting scheduled today in Japan, address other priorities ranging from Russia’s war in Ukraine to climate change, economic security and global trade.”
According to the British government, the British Foreign Minister is scheduled to discuss during the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting developments in the Middle East, including preventing destructive and destabilizing regional escalation and further violence.
The British Foreign Secretary is also scheduled to meet his Japanese counterpart Yuko Kamikawa to discuss the UK's long-term commitment to the Indo-Pacific region, and Cleverley will also attend a reception on strengthening people-to-people ties between the UK and Japan, while expanding youth mobility and working holiday plans by up to 500% to enable more opportunities for young people to gain a better understanding of the cultures and societies of the two countries.
