Gaza - New York: Europe and the Arabs
Settlers stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of Jerusalem today, Tuesday, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police.
According to the Palestinian News Agency, eyewitnesses reported that dozens of settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the Al-Maghariba Gate, in successive groups, and performed Talmudic rituals, and carried out provocative tours in its courtyards.
The occupation forces have continued their siege of the Al-Aqsa Mosque since October 7, 2023, by restricting the entry of worshipers to it, and by tightening their procedures at its gates, placing iron barriers, stopping those coming to it, and obstructing their entry.
It is noteworthy that more than 46,293 settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque between October 7, 2023 and September 8.
On the other hand, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that issuing mass evacuation orders in Gaza, without ensuring the existence of safe and suitable places for the displaced, continues to exacerbate the already deteriorating humanitarian situation of hundreds of thousands of people.
As of today, there are more than 55 evacuation orders in effect – covering more than 85 per cent of the population of the Gaza Strip. The latest evacuation order was issued in northern Gaza on Saturday, said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the United Nations. According to the UN daily news bulletin, a copy of which was received this morning, Tuesday.
In his daily press briefing, Dujarric said that repeated displacements are separating families and eroding social protection systems, especially for women and children.
Despite the significant increase in protection needs for women and children, multiple evacuation orders are impacting the humanitarian response and delaying or disrupting support for people facing gender-based violence, by forcing the closure or relocation of relevant services.
For its part, the World Food Programme said that five out of six bakeries stopped operations for 12 hours on Saturday, due to fuel shortages. Four bakeries resumed operations at reduced capacity yesterday after the programme reallocated reserve fuel from its warehouses in northern Gaza.
One bakery remains out of service, and current fuel supplies are sufficient for two more days at this limited capacity. Unless fuel is allowed into the north, the remaining five bakeries will be forced to stop operating.
Regarding the access of humanitarian missions to northern Gaza, the UN spokesperson reported that only 37 humanitarian missions were facilitated during the first two weeks of this month out of 94 planned. In southern Gaza, only 50% of the 243 coordinated humanitarian missions were facilitated.
The spokesperson added that the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has been unable to access northern Gaza for 28 days, and that aid convoys are exposed to gunfire or life-threatening conditions, or are stopped or delayed for hours in combat zones.
