Beirut - New York: Europe and the Arabs
The National News Agency in Lebanon reported today, Sunday, that the Israeli occupation aircraft carried out a large-scale air aggression targeting border towns in southern Lebanon and forested and open areas in the south and western Bekaa, where more than 60 airstrikes were recorded.
The agency (which is the official news agency in Lebanon) stated that "the raids were concentrated on the valley between Ansar and Zarariyeh, Aita al-Shaab, the valley adjacent to the Nabatieh-Khardali road, the area between Maaliya and Malikiyeh, the outskirts of Zebqin towards Sheheen, Wadi Hassan on the outskirts of Majdal Zoun, the outskirts of the town of Yater, the outskirts of Taybeh, Markaba and Taloussa, the city of Khiyam, the outskirts of the town of Kfarmelki, and the course of the Tasa-Luwaizeh spring in the Iqlim al-Tuffah area, the outskirts of Froun, Mahmoudiya, the outskirts of Labaya, the Damascene area, the outskirts of Rab al-Thalathin and Yaroun and the town of Adaisseh."
On the other hand, the American CNN network said that expectations indicate that many world leaders will withdraw during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech before the United Nations General Assembly, which begins next Tuesday. According to what was reported by the Youm7 website in Cairo,
In a report on the work of the annual assembly, the network said that Netanyahu, who previously served as Tel Aviv's ambassador to the United Nations, will be present and will deliver his speech next week, which is expected to lead to many withdrawals from the assembly hall.
CNN quoted Richard Gowan, the United Nations Director at the International Crisis Group, as saying that Netanyahu hates the region and has a deep mistrust of it.
The American network spoke in its report on the General Assembly this year, and said that it is once again besieged in a debate about its relevance to what is happening at a time when wars are raging in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan, which are problems that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is keen to address.
It stated that the war in Sudan will be one of the topics of discussion, as famine has been declared in a refugee camp near Al-Fasher, the capital of Darfur State. The city has been under siege for months by the Rapid Support Forces.
Climate change will be one of the most important issues to be discussed, the report said, with the General Assembly expected to hold a meeting on rising sea levels on Wednesday, as leaders of vulnerable island nations press for more action to address global warming.
The US presidential race looms at the General Assembly, with many diplomats already worried about who will speak for the United States next year.
