Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Libya have achieved success in preventing illegal immigrants from reaching Europe

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi confirmed that Tunisian authorities have prevented more than 61,000 illegal immigrants from reaching European coasts since the beginning of this year.
A statement issued by the Italian Interior Ministry yesterday, Wednesday, stated that the number confirms the continued commitment of the countries of origin and transit of immigrants to combat illegal immigration. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed a 60% decline in the number of illegal immigrants arriving in Italy compared to last year's figures.
Earlier this month, the Moroccan Interior Ministry confirmed that a total of 45,015 attempts at irregular immigration have been thwarted since the beginning of 2024.
According to the ministry's data, 11,323 attempts at irregular immigration were thwarted in the M'diq prefecture and 3,325 attempts in the Nador region, during the month of August 2024, carried out by people of different nationalities.
The security services also dismantled 177 criminal networks active in the field of migrant smuggling, while 10,589 migrants were rescued at sea and provided with assistance, medical support, shelter and guidance within the framework of humanitarian border management.
The ministry stated that the Kingdom is still facing increasing migration pressure during 2024 as a direct result of the prevailing instability in the Sahel region, in addition to the porousness of the borders.
In early August, the Algerian authorities announced that in the context of combating illegal immigration, the Algerian Coast Guard forces succeeded in arresting 509 illegal immigrants of different nationalities in a number of Algerian states.
A day earlier, an official in the Libyan Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency announced the return of 369 illegal immigrants from Nigeria and Mali to their countries, including more than 100 women and children.
The Libyan Al-Wasat channel said that the process of returning illegal immigrants to their countries began in two trips, the first carrying 204 Nigerians and the second 165 Malians.
She stressed that the arrests of migrants occur after a complaint is filed with the Anti-Immigration Agency by the municipalities in which they are located.
