Beirut - Khan Yunis: Agencies - Europe and the Arabs
Today, Thursday, the Israeli occupation army bombed Al-Amal Hospital and Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, causing human and material losses.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society announced that the vicinity of Al-Amal Hospital was subjected to “violent” Israeli bombing, resulting in material damage to the building. Residential buildings in the vicinity of the hospital were also blown up, and the displaced people of the Nasser Medical Complex and its doctors were forced to evacuate.
This came after Israeli aircraft launched a series of raids on several towns in the western and central sectors of southern Lebanon, in addition to towns in the Al-Tuffah region in the Jezzine district. As a result, 5 people were killed and a number of citizens were injured.
This came in the wake of violent missile attacks launched from southern Lebanon earlier Wednesday towards military targets in the Western Galilee region in northern Israel, without any Lebanese party claiming responsibility for this operation so far.
The Israeli raid on a house in the southern town of Al-Sawwanah resulted in the death of a woman and her two children, in addition to the destruction of the building.
For its part, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported the occurrence of what they described as a worrying shift in the exchange of fire between Israeli forces and armed groups in Lebanon, including targeting areas far from the Blue Line. According to what was stated in the United Nations news bulletin, a copy of which we received. From it this morning
The UN peacekeeping mission said that violations of the cessation of hostilities since October 8 have led to the death of many people and caused severe damage to civilian homes and public infrastructure. She added that the recent escalation is dangerous and must stop.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the UNIFIL mission continues to fully engage with the parties to calm tensions and continue implementing its mandate. Peacekeepers continue their work on the ground despite increased risks and challenges.
Dujarric renewed the United Nations call for all parties to ceasefire and work towards reaching a diplomatic solution.
It is noteworthy that the Blue Line extends for 120 kilometers along Lebanon's southern border. It is not a border, but a “withdrawal line” established by the United Nations in 2000 for the practical purpose of confirming the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and it does not prejudice any future border agreements between the two countries.
Imran Reza, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, expressed deep sadness over the civilian casualties caused by the air strikes on southern Lebanon today, “which tragically claimed the lives of two children and their mother.” He stressed the need to be careful to spare civilians from harm, and to protect civilians and children.
