The Palestinian mission to the United Nations distributed an amended draft resolution to members of the General Assembly calling on Israel to end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories within no more than 12 months from the date of adoption of the resolution.
The text, "expected to be voted on on September 18," calls on states to comply with their obligations under international law and in accordance with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
The amended Palestinian proposal proposes the idea of establishing an international mechanism to compensate for damages, losses and injuries resulting from Israel's actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The amended Palestinian draft resolution approves holding a conference of the parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians in Time of War to enforce the convention in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The text also speaks of holding an international conference during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly to implement international resolutions related to the Palestinian issue.
The draft resolution is expected to be voted on during the tenth session of the General Assembly next Wednesday.
Last Monday, the Arab Group at the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement requested the General Assembly of the international organization to vote on a Palestinian draft resolution calling on Israel to "end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories within 6 months."
On the ground, 5 Palestinians were killed and others were injured today, Thursday, as a result of the Israeli occupation's bombing of Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip, and the Zeitoun neighborhood in the south of Gaza City.
The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported that 3 Palestinians were killed and others were injured, after the occupation bombed the house of the Siam family in the Al-Fakhoura area in Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip, and they were transferred to Kamal Adwan Hospital in the camp. Two Palestinians were also killed and a number of citizens were injured as a result of the occupation's bombing of Kashko Street in the Zeitoun neighborhood.
It indicated that the occupation forces blew up residential buildings in the northern areas of Al-Bureij camp in the central Gaza Strip, while the occupation aircraft raided a house in Al-Da'wa in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip. The Al-Sabra neighborhood in the south of Gaza City was also subjected to artillery shelling, specifically around the Abu Sharia office.
Since the beginning of the aggression on October 7, 2023, 41,020 Palestinians have been killed, most of them children and women, and 94,925 others have been injured. Rescue teams are still facing great difficulties in reaching thousands of victims who are still under the rubble or on the streets. In the same context, UNRWA confirmed the killing of six of its employees when two airstrikes hit a school and the surrounding area in Nuseirat, central Gaza Strip. This is the largest number of victims for the agency in a single incident.
The agency said that among the dead was the director of the UNRWA shelter and a number of members of the team providing assistance to the displaced. The agency offered its condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated that the school had been bombed five times since the beginning of the war, and that it was sheltering about 12,000 displaced people, the majority of whom were women and children.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on the XN website, "What is happening in Gaza is completely unacceptable. A school that had been used as a shelter for about 12,000 people was bombed by Israeli airstrikes again today." He stressed the need to stop these serious violations of international humanitarian law now. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini commented: “Senseless and senseless killing, day after day. Another school sheltering displaced people was hit today in Nuseirat. Among those killed were six UNRWA staff members who were working to support families who had taken shelter in the school.” He said that at least 220 UNRWA staff have been killed in Gaza since the beginning of the year. “Aid workers, facilities and operations have been blatantly and relentlessly ignored since the beginning of the war. The longer impunity continues, the more irrelevant international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions become,” the UN official said.
